Who am I?

How do you answer that question? I’m a father, husband, professor, world traveler and, of course, a runner. I started running ultramarathons in graduate school and, with a year or two taken off here and there, continued for almost 20 years. I’ve done numerous marathons, 50k and 50 mile races, and perhaps most notably completed four 100 mile ultramarathons. I’m not at all competitive (except with myself) and my goal is typically to finish since I don’t have close to enough speed to place. The ultrarunning community is one that I have enjoyed being at least a fleeting part of and I still treasure having the time to myself to run, think, and enjoy the outdoors. As I enter those middle years of 40-something, I hope to continue challenging myself and finding a little bit of peace on the roads and trails in a pair of my favorite running shoes.
